Sinai EM Journal Club

Emergency Medicine Discussion Forum

Conference Articles

Journal Club Schedule 2006-2007

Journal club will review major articles pertinent to Emergency Medicine looking at a range of article types. The goal of this format is to become familiar with the important EM literature and to learn how to evaluate different article types. We will be reviewing 2-3 of the following article types per year.

  1. Harm
  2. Therapy / Prevention
  3. Diagnosis
  4. Prognosis
  5. Integrative studies (Clinical Practice Guidelines / Clinical Decision Analysis / etc.)

If you have a preference, the type of article that you review will be determined on a first request first assigned basis. You will be expected to:

1. Give an introduction talk briefly covering (1-2 slides/per section):

  • History of topic
  • Relevance of topic to EM
  • Introduction
  • Methods of the article to be discussed

2. Complete a Critically Appraised Topic Sheet based on the JC discussion. This will be included in our Journal Club article bank. Downloadable MS Word CAT worksheets can be found here: http://www.cebm.utoronto.ca/teach/materials/caworksheets.htm
